Today I was just at home, reading stuff for university. My mom brought another cake home and a friend came over in the afternoon for cake & coffee.  As we had another warm and sunny day, I decided on these Asia-style Prada Sandals. These are the first Prada (or expensive) shoes I ever bought –  I was still in High School back then! I can still remember going to the store a million times just to admire them! So I saved money and sold old stuff at the flea market just to be able to buy these shoes! Luckily, when the sale came, a pair in my size was left and so they became my first pair of Prada shoes. I wore these a lot back then, and I still love them as much now! But now, I don’t wear them as often anymore, just so they will stay beautiful – I never want to lose them…. do you have any shoes you want to keep forever?

I love all the details on this shoe: the beautiful fabric combined with patent leather, the leaf and flower, and the attention paid to the heel design, the colour combination:

Last up, the cake my mom bought – again the wonderful Sachertorte from Rischart, this time with a slightly different design:

  1. Oh Julia – your post just made me smile with the memory of the first pair of Prada shoes that I bought. About 15 years ago I fell in love with a pair of black satin perspex heeled wedge mules. For months I wandered in and out of the shoe department of my favourite department store, looking at them lovingly, sighing.

Eventually I managed to buy them on sale. To this day they are the most expensive pair of shoes that I have ever bought and I have worn them only a handful of times. But I love them and will always love them.

Your sandals are exquisite and so is your kimono* sleeved top. I’m sure that there is a most accurate term but I shall defer to you in all things Japanese.

That is the most dangerous looking cake I have ever seen!

    • Thank you for sharing your shoe memory! I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one “visiting” a pair I long for many times in the shop, staring and sighing (and hoping to win the lottery…) and sometimes, it’s like it’s meant to be! But I do believe that a purchase is worth the money if you still like it many years later. I do hope to see those black wedge mules of yours in a future shoe challenge!

  2. Wow, these are such lovely shoes! I like floral shoes, and these are really quite unusual. I don’t think I really became interested in shoes until fairly recently… Maybe a couple of years ago. But it’s no wonder you have so many beautiful shoes if you’ve been collecting them since high school!

I studied Japanese for a while when I was at university, and I don’t remember a lot of it now, but I was glad that I was able to read some of what you wrote! I admire you for being able to speak so many languages – I wish I could too.

    • When I was younger I wasn’t interested in shoes (or fashion really) at all! My love affair with shoes began when my mom “forcibly” bought me a nice pair of shoes in Italy when I was about 16….I wonder if she regrets that now ;)?? I still had them until recently, but when they finally broke I had to throw them away….

  3. What fun! I do still have, and love my first pair of “Good Shoes.” My husband gave me a pair of Via Spiga slides as a gift. He also gave me the matching bag, and I am very sentimental about both of them to this day. I think many of my shoes have memories related to them, and that just makes it more fun to wear each time.

    • Oh, you are lucky! I was so sad when mine broke. I hope they will stay with you for a long time! I also can remember most of the “stories” behind my shoes and it does make wearing them more fun!
